About Us

There is a continuing spirit of innovation within Camphill communities today. They continue to pioneer new initiatives to meet the changing needs of people with challenges in modern society.
It is this spirit that inspires the Helios Learning Point Society to offer innovative educational and therapeutic programs. We seek to offer education to parents that will enable them to offer their children full support. The Helios Learning Point Society seeks to be a healing force in our community offering opportunities for those who want to volunteer their time to share their gifts with our children and in return receive the many gifts that our children have to offer in return.
One of our projects is to build or renovate an existing property on the North Shore to provide a permanent home for children with challenges and space for respite care. Our residential program will be based on the Camphill model and will be supported by two live-in parents. This permanent home will also provide adequate educational, therapeutic and community space for our Day Program which we hope will serve countless children with challenges.
Please see “Support Our Work”…to see how you can help us realize this next phase of our vision.
The Helios Learning Point Society has grown from the impulse of the life long dream of Graham Oslund who has envisioned the highest level of care for children and adults with diverse abilities in a healing centre in a supportive community.
In 1940, Dr. Karl König, inspired by the Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner, wanted to make a real difference in the lives of people who were marginalized and excluded from society. He believed that those with mental handicaps had much to contribute if only their inner self could find expression. König’s life-long work created the Camphill movement.
Dr. König’s group included doctors, medical students and creative young people. This first group of individuals chose to do their work, not as a job or career, but as a way of life. Through curative education they aimed to stimulate each child’s developing individuality, giving them freedom to grow to their full potential. They discovered that such a task could not be achieved in the classroom alone, but needed to be supported 24 hrs each day. As a result, Camphill homes sprung up all over the world.

Helios Learning Point Society has many strong partnerships that inspire and aid us in fulfilling our mission and support us through partnership for learning, sharing and creating a vibrant community at the local and international level.
We have a long association with the Camphill Movement both in Canada, North America and internationally as well as the work of the Spacial Dynamics Institute.
